Cup diameters for mouthpieces other than trumpet and cornet are relative to each other with the smallest numbers representing the smallest diameters. CUP DIAMETER (First number in label)Most trumpet and cornet mouthpieces have a cap diameter that falls between. The higher the instrument is, the shallower the cup should be. A player who needs primarily a good range without sacrificing much tone can consider a hollow mouthpiece with a widened 2nd cup. CUP VOLUME (First letter in label)In general the deep cup mouthpieces produce the darkest sounds.
Unfortunately, the closest thing to a 3C but with a flatter rim is the 15C4, which is going to be both bigger and deeper than a 3C. Any of the Schilke's with the third digit "A" are going to have a much shallower cup, not at all like a 3C. When... Whenever measurements differ from the standard sizes schilke 14a4a trumpet mouthpiece the alterations are shown on the mouthpiece.
