Best guitar-strings for a Guild?

Q: This is for a Guild Acoustic with an electric pick-up. I don't know much else about the model of the guitar other than that it was very expensive with it was first purchased. I should also note that I am not a beginner so I will need .. quality.

A: Willy's answer is on target, but for your acoustic-electric I would recommend DR Zebra mediums, ZAE-12. Those strings seem to last a lifetime and are always brilliant when played. I've also installed them on my electric Gretsch and they play superbly.

Too many strings on a guitar?

The result is that I can play simple thumb-strum accompaniments with first position chords, more complex stuff ( a la Richard Dyer-Bennet) if it seems appropriate to the song, or if the spirit moves me and I have a good tail-wind, I can still do a... I've also been playing guitars for about 50 years, and I cheated early on by taking classic guitar lessons and I practiced a lot. I took five months' lessons from a real Flamenco guitarist back in 1962, and I can still tear off a brisk Allegrias from time to time (even though a Spanish gypsy would probably sigh and roll his eyes)....

Hopefully you can provide an answer to my question. Recently I purchased a new Martin 000-28 EC guitar and when I removed the strings so I could replace them and give the guitar a good cleaning half of the bushings fell out when I turned the guitar over


I never heard of that problem. You should ask about it at the umgf website. That is the unofficial martin guitar forum. Those guys know everything about Martin guitars.
