Q: Im having trouble with the thicker strings on my acoustic, so I was thinking about switching to lighter strings. How is the sound with light strings? is the guitar easier to play?
A: Yes, it's easier to play, but you may not get such a good tone. The heavier the strings, the stronger and richer the tone, but they also have to be tighter in order to get up to pitch, making them harder to play. I find that, especially with acoustics,
I'm planning to replace the strings on my Yamaha thinline guitar, i prefer the brand ernie ball earthwood. Which pack should i get? the light or extra light strings and what difference will is make?
Polyweb coated strings have a balanced tone and smooth response – they sound like strings that have been “played in”. Nanoweb coated strings sound and feel like uncoated strings – they are bright and lively, and the coating is so micro thin that...
Believe the hype…they really DO last FAR longer than any other strings, and they sound great while doing it. Many other strings will sound great for a short while, but as soon as they get “gunked up”, they lose any brilliance and tone, and become... In fact, the only way I know to change them eventually is not because they stop sounding good (which they don’t), but because I’ll start having intonation problems and I know the strings need to be changed. They will sound great for the life of the string. With the Nanowebs, they sound AND feel like regular strings, but last forever....
Also, because of the coating your fingertips don’t stick to the strings- it’s so much nicer that I consistently notice when I pick up someone else’s guitar that other types of strings grab at your fingers- not preferable. I use the Elixir light and custom light strings on all of my acoustic electric guitars (Taylor, Martin, Seagull, Rogue). They are expensive but really cut down on the labor of going out and buying conventional strings and them changing them. Their sound is mellower but still bright- meaning they don’t have that tin sound common to fresh strings, and they hold up longer....
I'm considering extra light strings because I like bend a lot. But i don't want strings that break easily when I bend. That would just kill the whole purpose of the extra light strings.
Thanks Cal. I do like to play blues.
