Are Ernie Ball's Power Slinky guitar strings thicker than normal ones?

(It says Custom Gauge on the package)

I got two pairs of these, and put a set on each of my guitars. They both have fret buzz and I think that it is a weird coincidence. Are these thicker than normal strings? Can they be the cause of this


It depends on what guage you used before hand. It's usually a good idea to get an adjustment when you're changing guages of strings on your guitar.

I had Ernie ball power slinky strings and I was tuning to drop c and my high e string was in e tuning and as I was tuning it down to e flat it snapped. I had them for nearly a month and the was hardly any pressure in the strings and I was loosening the string so I don’t no why it snapped. Not sure from your description where the string broke, but most likely it was either at the string tree or the saddle. even if not, tuning a string up and down repeatedly (including heavy whammy bar use) does cause stress at the contact points (i. e. , saddle, nut, string tree, and machine tuner), and it will fail quicker....

iv seen some 10 and even 11 gague guitar strings what does the gauge mean and what does it feel like to play on a bigger gauge


well thicker gauged strings are better for guitars with whammy bars because they are a little stiffer. like with my jackson i have a floyd rose so i have to use at least 11's. on a non whammy guitar its just a little bit harder to do bends. unless

Used to use them all the time when I played electric. Last a long time. Sounded good. Now I only do nylon, D'Addario.
