6 string bass
Q: I am currently playing on a 4 string bass for 5 months and my dad said in a year he will either buy me a 4 string gibson or a 6 string bass. Which should i play? Is it hard to switch?
A: The only differnce will be mostly in the right hand since the strings are slightly closer. Their is no adjustment whatsoever besides what I have explained.
The 6-string will gives you more versatility due to the 2 extra strings although, 5-strings
I recently picked up an Ibanez GSR206 6-string bass. I wanted to tune it to EADGBE like the Fender Bass VI. What would happen if I tuned it to this tuning?

my main concern would be bass technique is pretty damn important, a guitarist can get away with having slightly sloppy technique but a bassist with bad technique is very noticable from the buzzing noise he will get the lack of strength in his... bassists don’t rely on belting out notes, in fact there is many a case when a bass that is tight with the drummer is better (eg the pixies music). If your bass is a four string it is strung E,A,D,G just like the guitar’s last four strings....
