Archtop jazz guitar without a proper amp?

Q: I've just got a great deal on a jazz guitar from my guitar teacher, but I won't be able to afford a "jazz guitar" amp for a while now... I have a nice PA and a mixing board at home and I'm wondering if it will sound good for small solo gigs?

A: "Jazz guitar amps" are a dime a dozen, in my opinion. For example, a Crate (12 inch speaker) is great Jazz amp. Any Fender with a 12 inch speaker is probably a great Jazz amp. Any Peavy tube amp with a 12" speaker should work. Probably

whats a good low budget jazz amp?

It may depend on what kind of jazz you play but for tubes it's hard to go wrong w/ a Fender Twin or DeLux or even DeVille. If you want solid-state the Roland Jazz Chorus sounds good but is kinda heavy to lug around (the Twin is too). You should be able

Fender Twin is THE amp for what you're looking for however if you're looking for an amp to lug around to gigs the twin is very heavy unless you have your own roadies . A Fender Deluxe Reverb will get you real close to Twin territory and won't... My main gigging amp (and i do 2-3 gigs a week with my 175) is a fender princeton reverb II - they are no longer made but have a pair of 6v6's in the power section, plenty of headroom...

When I am invited to teach a clinic, or sit in with a band I’ve never played with before for a show, I really enjoy the looks I get from the audience and band members when, for a straight-ahead jazz gig, I pull out my PRS McCarty Korina.

I really like the sound of the Peavey delta blues, but I've never owned a tube amp. Are there any comparable solid state amps that sound good clean? I have no need for crunch right now.

Joshua,

The above poster is on the right track with the Roland JC120 (Jazz-Chorus) - its a fantastic jazz amp and is solid state. Many jazz guitarists swear by it. The only problem is that its not small or lightweight. If you don't

so i played my ibanez RG370DX through an Engl 2X12 amp and also a marshall JVM, both of them tube, and i was pretty dissapointed for some reason, i want a really really warm, round, bright sound and i couldnt get it through the Marshall and Engl amp,

DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT PLAYING JAZZ WITH THE RG370DX. What you are going to need my friend is a semi-hollow or an archtop guitar. Marshall won't do the job. I would suggest a fender reverb or a fender hot rod blues tube amp. Also put some heavy gauge
