I am unsure what gives the better jazz tone (I don't have the doe to afford a solid jazz guitar) but I am curious anyway.
Great sounding for Jazz, very warm. Tuners were replaced because the originals (included) can't tune close enough for a player of Jazz. Very Good condition 1957 or 58 guitar, SN 4962.

The ES-175 is the standard for a smaller jazz guitar with a lower bout of 16 inches, a laminated body and humbucker pickups mounted directly on the body. The Gibson L4-ces is essentially the same size and shape as the ES-175 but has fancier hardware, inlays and has a carved solid spruce top. There seems to be an increasing number of small bodied jazz guitars available....
I know, I know a carved Benedetto 17" wide, 3" thick, 25" neck to bridge, dried for 30 years, etc would be better, but I'm on a budget for an archtop. I'm also getting a custom electric but a metal, fusion, rock electric doesn't work well
