What is the difference between a player piano and a regular piano?

Q: I'm looking for a piano and i keep finding all of these "player grand pianos" .... What's the difference?

A: A player plays by itself. There are sort of scrolls inside with different songs on them which are just holes in the paper.. The one we had was very old. Probably now they do it electronically.

My husband is looking to purchase a player piano on craigslist that says it cost 1600 to recently tune.


It should cost no more to tune a player piano than a regular piano. Regulation and voicing, on the other hand, is a bear. Even worse is if there are pneumatic leaks in the player mechanism. There are still shops that specialize in players and reproducing

Part of the reason I know the lyrics to so many old songs is from pumping away at that old player piano and hearing the songs and all the scrolls had the lyrics Uncle Charles had a player piano in the basement and HUNDREDS of scrolls of music. If I would ever move back to Lafayette (Chances of that are really slim to none) I would LOVE to buy that house. We LOVED playing that player piano....

I have to move an old player piano up a flight of steps and into a box truck then drive it 40 miles away then unload it and take it into a house.I will have two guys to help me. how much do you think i should charge?


You should charge at least $150.00 to start plus a dollar per mile past 5 miles to cover two guys only. Charge an additional $50.00 per hour for the third guy.
