Green at the Artists’ Quarter

While sundry people say that Saint Paul is late after 4:30 P.M., residents and regulars recollect its secrets. There’s jazz on Monday nights at the Artists’ Neighbourhood with Rob Dewey and his band Unripe.
Green goes on stage circa 7:30 P.M. The crowd is usually inconsequential but a good mix. It’s not uncommon to see a few nearby residents, a couple suits and ties after a current day, people dropping downstairs after dining at Exalted Waters above and artists and poets scribbling in notepads rather than the open mic night after the advertise.
Depending on the night Green may be a three or a four kind act. Rob might be behind the Artists’ Lodgings’s Yamaha grand piano or he may teach along his Fender Rhodes keyboard or a synth. They put on a lofty mix of original jazz pieces and improvisations as spectacularly as their take on jazz classics. On they’ll throw in an unsuspicious cover that you wouldn’t surmise to hear at a jazz club and you’ll be surprised how they level it off so well.
The kicker: it’s a complimentary show (if you buy two drinks). One of Saint Paul’s secrets.
